Living in Melbourne my whole life (until about nine months ago) and being an avid photographer, it was inevitable I join the Melbourne Flickr group. Right, that should just about bring you up to speed.
This month’s themed competition is Portraits. The themed competitions have come about only in the last six months or so, and I like the idea. Since I now live in Malaysia, I cannot participate (regularly) in the group’s long running competition, which is your best shot, taken in the past month, taken in Melbourne, and uploaded to the group. I welcomed the themed competition with opened apertures.
Anyway, portraits. You might not know this about me, but I love the quote by Jean-Paul Sartre, “Hell is other people”. I generally dislike people. Or, so I thought. When looking through my photos which I’d classify as portraits, I was surprised to find as many as I did. And these don’t even include Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Arnaud and Liz’s wedding, all of which are centred around people. (Nor does it include the few family portraits I’ve lined up to shoot later this year when I’m back in Oz. If it did include these, I’d have access to a time machine, which would seriously be the bees-knees.) Maybe I don’t mind people after all?
I thought it’d be cool to post a selection of portrait-esque photographs I’ve taken to date, to make it easier to select the one I’ll enter into the themed competition. And to make me feel nice. And keep this blog rollin’.
