Happy 1st birthday

It’s official: I’ve been blogging for more than one year.
But blogging on bartkowalski.com for less than a year.

When Kelly and I arrived in KL, I decided to blog to let folks back home know what living abroad was like. This began on a free wordpress account over at b(log)keeper. My first post was written on the 13th March 2010 at 6:36pm. This was more than a year ago.

I wrote at b(log)keeper for about three months until Kirko had finished building my brand new blog-centric site here at bartkowalski.com. I announced the switch on the 25th June 2010 at 5:15pm. This was less than a year ago.

Of course there was parallel blogging going on, with my trusty MarsEdit blogging software posting to both sites for a while. It turns out that the first blog post I ever wrote was converted over to bartkowalski.com on 11th April 2010 at 2:28pm. This is exactly one year ago today. This is the date I’m celebrating. Quietly.

According to the WordPress admin panel, I’ve written 279 posts in 365 days — that’s a blog post every 32 hours on average. Not too shabby. What have I learned?

Stuff I have learned from blogging

  1. Swings and roundabouts. Sometimes I get excited and write two or more posts in one day, and sometimes I go more than a week without writing. This is a direct result of my mental workload and/or mood.
  2. I thought writing would be a way for me to report on life abroad for my family and friends. It’s become more than that. I’ve used it to hash out inner thoughts, suck in outer thoughts, and kind of practise my writing. I’m no English major, and don’t pretend to be. I do however wish I had the knowledge of an English major. Some people dislike this about me.
  3. It’s good to give stuff away.
  4. A (regularly updated) blog is a great way to improve SEO. Look: clicky! See that guy a few results down, He was at #1 spot a year ago, and despite having a website for myself for a while, I wasn’t updating it at all. As an aside, here’s what the first ever version of my website (portfolio) looked like.

So, yeah…

Happy birthday to bartkowalski.com :D

Happy Birthday bartkowalski.com – you are my favourite blog. I like when you update a few times a day or when you don’t update for a week. I’m always checking, always loving your work, your words, and your footnotes.

    Happy Birthday!

Now I know that your twitter name, BKPR, isn’t a spin on that BPGlobalPR twitter account which I remembered as BPPR. But it’s not. Anyway, I thought your twitter account was Bart Kowalksi Public Relations and I thought that was grand. In fact I still pretend it is.

PS: On the topic of Bees – http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/manukau-courier/4875878/Town-hall-the-bees-knees
I like the idea of bee sentinels.
