Remember Tatto? The Italian restaurant near us in KL (city centre) that I wrote about a while back? At the end of that post, I wrote: “Tatto. Our new favourite dessert place.” Well, I think I can say Tatto is now our favourite pizza place. Or more precisely, Tatto is our favourite pizza deliverer, and our pool area is our new favourite place to eat it.
I think of myself as somewhat of a pizza expert. I worked in a pizza place for seven years, doing everything except for delivering. I started the Polish influx of workers at Mojo’s Pizza in Port Melbourne in the late 90s, and have been called The Godfather[1. I just made that up]. I’ve been involved in branding a pizza place or two. I make my own pizzas, and get compliments!
All this experience lends credence to my saying Tatto’s is the best pizza I’ve eaten in Kuala Lumpur, hands down. Just take a look at this:
Clockwise from top/furthest away: Garlic pizza, Margherita, Salmone (see those thick slices of fresh salmon? it’s not the thin, smoked stuff you get at the supermarket), and D’Angelo.
Thin crust. Simple designs. Delicious toppings (and not too much of them). Woodfired the old skool way. The right amount of pizzas on the menu (about a dozen). Delivered. And the best part of the delivery is their pizza section is kind of separate to the rest of the restaurant so they’re boxed and delivered as soon as they’re out of the oven. They’re just around the corner too, so a two-minute journey by scooter ensures the pizza is hot when it arrives and the cheese is still oozy.
“Hi, Mr. Bart”
They know us now too. Tatto Pizza Nights™ at Hampshire Residence happen about every three weeks, and range in size from 4 to 14 hungry people. They are usually organised around times when our KL friends are all in town at the same time (many travel around Asia for work). There is frequently alcohol present. They are always awesome.
The Tatto Pizza Night™ runs until ~10:30pm, which is when we get the time-to-pack-it-up looks from the security guards (official pool rules state gatherings end at 10pm on weekdays, 11pm on weekends). Great on a school night.
“Ahh, sorry, cannot”
The only downside is they do’t deliver in the rain. If you’ve seen the rain here in KL, you’ll understand why. Fortunately, the rain has stopped our delivery only once, and it’s not too far to drive to pick the pizza up yourself (depending on KL traffic of course…)
When you come and visit, we’ll organise a Tatto Pizza Night™ so you can experience it for yourself.
