When ANZ rebranded, one of the stipulations in the style guide for the Institutional sector of ANZ was that all photographic images needed to have a clear blue sky, and the sun. While sourcing images with these elements in itself is not difficult, finding these images which also have a relationship to institutional banking is a bit harder. I’d often come up against an image which was perfect conceptually, but had no sun in the sky. This led me to created a couple of artificial, but photo-realistic, sun images that I could insert into any image with a clear blue sky.
Invite design for a formal ANZ function. As there were only 120 guests to be invited to this formal function, I thought I could create something special, that could be finished by hand. Once I realised this, I set to work thinking and sketching ideas that could only be done by hand. The end result is a combination of digital printing, special stock, and hand-finishing. The first stage was designing and setting up a file for the digital press. Using two specialty stocks: a pearlescent off-white, and a textured grey card, tests needed to be run at the print house, Bambra Press.
Invite design for an ANZ cocktail function celebrating the Diwali festival. A simple design, playing on the theme of Diwali, or festival of lights. In this design the lights or lamps are represented as small circles of colour made by forme-cut holes in the front cover. The bright watercolour pattern inside can be seen through these holes. The concept of light really comes to life when, once the dark front face is opened, the bright watercolour pattern inside is fully revealed.
ANZ approached us to create a 60-page (60pp) book for a new banking product. The book was to contain detailed information about the product, a section for the legal disclaimer, and also incorporate a application form the reader could fill out and send into ANZ. The design of this book followed the older-brand guidelines (ANZ redesigned their branding in 2009), and as such included a high-level concept for the front cover image, as well as detailed photoshop work. Due to the size of the textual content, a dynamic table of contents (TOC) needed to be introduced during the layout process.
Newsletter design for ANZ Transactive, an online cash management platform purpose-built for institutional, corporate and large business clients. ANZ redesigned their logo in 2009, resulting in a completely new set of design elements and guidelines. All collateral had to be redesigned in the new brand, including the newsletter for ANZ Transactive. The new design employs the use of angled ‘perspective shapes’, and a refreshed colour palette. In the Institutional sector of ANZ, another design guideline is that all photographs are to contain a blue sky and a shining sun.
